What’s your role with SABI Construction?
I’m a second-generation contractor—my dad is the one who originally started the company. I manage all the logistics and project management. I am pretty tech savvy and make sure our processes and client communications are well-documented. My dad always says, “you can’t manage what you can’t measure.”
So how do you keep track of everything?
I manage all the work we need to do with apps like Jira/Atlassian, or Todoist. I also create a Slack workspace for each client so the information stays organized, everybody can access it, and reach who they need to. Clients get access for several months after the project wraps to make sure we close all the loops, troubleshoot, and to give them a record of what we did, costs, materials, etc. By documenting the process, we can track and improve it over time.
Though SABI Construction launched their US operations in 2019, they’d spent the past 20 years working in the heart of Italy’s marble industry, eventually expanding into high-end tile and the carpentry behind it. SABI lays down sharp and well-executed plans for the New York area like they’re tile.
What makes for good client communication?
We don’t just see ourselves as builders—we’re presenting clients with an experience and coming into their homes to achieve it. So first off, we don’t just hire anybody—we’ve filtered our core team so much that it’s like distilled water. There’s pure clarity and trust between us, the team, and clients. We’re constantly communicating across the project, making sure there are no loose ends, and documenting everything for reference and so it’s in writing and clients know what to expect.
What else sets SABI apart from other contractors?
We are masters in the craft of tile and marble. That’s what we came from and it’s our forte, and we’re highly recognized even though we’re newer in New York. We want our work to stand the test of time, just like the materials, and to execute perfectly even in the tricky spots, or the parts that often get overlooked. When we finish a job, we don’t just want the clients themselves to be happy, we want their guests to come out of the bathroom impressed with the remodel.
